CONN

Conn 100H, made in the early 1990s, is one of the more unique straight tenor trombones to come from the Conn factory. Designed by the legendary Larry Minick, this model carries forward his innovative approach to trombone building. Minick was widely known for his custom brass work in Los Angeles and served as a consultant and designer for several manufacturers. His contributions to the Conn line—particularly this model—are still revered by players and collectors today.

The 100H shares core dimensions with the Conn 6H, including a .500 bore and 8" bell, but this one was factory-built in silver plate and includes several special design elements. One of the most interesting is the curved tuning slide brace that doubles as a balance weight—a nod to earlier Earl Williams models from the West Coast jazz scene. The silver plating is in pristine condition, and this horn has never been damaged or repaired.

It comes with three removable leadpipes for further customization and flexibility, making it ideal for advanced players who want to dial in the feel and response. The original Conn case is also included and in excellent condition.

This model wasn’t mass-produced and is rarely seen on the market today—especially in this kind of mint, collector-grade shape. It would be a superb choice for any jazz or commercial style player seeking a distinctive, high-performance instrument that won’t blend in with the crowd.

What makes the Conn 100H different from the classic 6H?
While both share the same bore and bell size, the 100H adds Minick’s unique design features, silver plating, and a modern tuning slide balance point. These refinements give it a different tonal character and a more boutique feel overall.

This Conn 100H has been sold and is now archived as a reference for trombonists seeking a rare, Minick-designed small bore jazz model.
