Bach 16 Rip Van Winkle Mount Vernon New York

Every once in a while an amazing Time Capsule  vintage horn surfaces. This late 1950's Vintage Mount Vernon Bach 16 came to us recently from the original owner who telephoned in, said he hadn't played it in over 40 years. It had been kept protected in an original canvas case cover (which will ship with the horn upon request). The case is in amazing condition. Has alligator leather trim. Every stitch is in place. This dual bore .495/509 is one of the most popular commercial and jazz horns of all time. It takes on a life like quality when played properly. The tones are rich and dark- lush like creamy finish. Small amounts of acid bleed around the rim- no big deal. Serious Bach Players know that horns like this do not come around often. This could be the find of a lifetime for the right player. Has been cleaned and serviced, ready to be put back into service after 40 Years. Rip Van Winkle, welcome back.  Priced at $2595 Sold 4/20/2013

Vintage King Trombone Shipping Australia

What Happens when you see a trombone on a website on the other side of the planet?  You order it!  That's exactly what our friend Perren in Australia did recently.  Thanks Perren for sharing!

The trombone is great. I love it! It got here just fine and it's beautiful. So many peanuts (and one leaf) I think it could have fallen out of the plane and still been fine!

My partner took photos as I was unpacking it, I've attached some, in case you would like to show any international customer how super your packing is. I should have got out of my PJ's first I guess but I just wanted to open it.

Thanks so much for everything Doug. When I am looking at getting another trombone, I'll definitely be coming to you (hopefully by then they'll have made it a little easier to ship trombones to Australia by then :)  )

 Thank you!

Perren

Schmelzer #2 Review

Schmelzer Trombones are hand crafted in Germany: Available in various sizes and combinations of alloys & finish,  this #2  is .508 bore, 8” yellow brass, sandblast finish, gold plated inner bell, with nickel silver slide. They are also available in nickel silver, copper, and gold brass.  This one is similar in size to a King 3B, or Bach 16- a very popular size with studio & jazz players today. The instrument feels much heavier in weight than either the 3B or 16. This, undoubtedly, helps darken the sound and creates more projection- easier to hear in the back of the room for the listener- it’s no lightweight studio sound.  Noticeably, I was able to play at much higher volume levels than expected without distortion of tone.  The horn plays very well in tune with itself, although, the slide positions feel slightly different that other trombones.

Aesthetically, the Schmelzer #2 is gorgeous.  The craftsmanship is world class.  The design is much different than other horns available commercially to today.  The curved hand grip on the slide also has decorative gold plating.  The engraving on the outer bell is very detailed and ornate- reminiscent of early models from the 1920-30’s.  The braces across the bell in the tuning slide area are also curved, in a way that compliments the curved hand brace.  For a serious bone player, jazz artist type, this horn will definitely set him apart from others.

Brass Exchange price $3200   One demo model is available for $2795

Schmelzer Trombones Now In

Now offering Schmelzer Trombones. These horns are hand crafted in Germany with only the finest materials available. This trombone size is .508 bore with 8" bell. This horn features a nickel silver slide with curved hand grip similar to the "Williams" model. There is decorative gold plating on the grip area. The bell is handcrafted with yellow brass. The finish is sandblasted satin with gold plating on the inner bell. The beautiful satin and gold plated bell give this trombone a true custom one of a kind look. The gold plating creates a dark & warm sound.

Price $2995

Found King 3B Silversonic in the time capsule

King 3B Silversonic

Price $2695 Sold

Pulled out of a time capsule, this beauty was in a case unopened for 40 years, according to the owner.  The horn was given to this colorful figure in the celebrity world by his Dad as a gift while attending Interlochen Summer Camp in 1966.  The horn was put a way in 1970 and hasn't been touched or even looked at since.  To the King Trombone collector and enthusiast, this could quite possibly be the find of a lifetime.  For the serious jazz bone player, who is on that never ending quest to find that perfect 3B, this very well may be the end of the journey.

This horn was made in 1966, It is a Vintage King 3B Silversonic at it's finest.  If you were to shop for  a modern day sterling silver 3B with gold plating- the best price that you could find on the Internet today is around $3200.  Ask yourself this question:  If you could buy a brand new silver King 3B that was made in 2012 or open the time capsule and get the original, that is, the "Legendary" real deal, for the same price, which would you choose?
